I've been rewatching all the old episodes and i rewatched "man of science man of faith" after seeing the thread about Desmond, and i noticed something very strange... It appears or the writers hint that Desmond could see the future before the hatch imploded.
Some Facts:
People have some to the conclusion that Desmond built the lightning rod to protect Claire because he could see in the future that something happened to them.

in one of the lost moments Charlie is attacked by Desmond because Charlie does not know what Desmond has been through. (THe hatch only imploded like a week ago. There hasn't really been much time for Desmond to go through things, unless he had been through something horrible before the island.
He was dishonorably discharged from the Royal Scots Army
Could he have been dishonorably discharged because of an experience that happened to him that caused him to have visions about the future? Did this cause him to desert or something?

In one of the Lost moments Hurley confronts Locke about him having superpowers and locke says something and then Hurley says "no but future-seeing is" (i'm assuming he is refering to something about Desmond)
Evidence of Desmond's future-seeing ability before the hatch imploded:
In the Hatch:
The mirror at the bottom of the hatch is just placed there and looks like it could be recent.
see this thread on more information on that:
http://www.tlflost.proboards91.com/index....69951592&page=1
Upon hearing the loud noise of the hatch being blown up, Desmond runs for a gun, a paranoid type thing to do but we do not know how descriptive Desmonds visions are he could have seen that some people were coming into the hatch with guns and known that someone would be coming, which could also be why he placed the mirror there, so he would be ready when the time came.
When the computer breaks Desmond thinks that it can't be fixed and runs away (presumably to his sailboat) perhaps he misinterpreted a vision and saw the hatch imploding (which it does in the end of the season) but thought that it would happen because the computer was broken.
Before the crash:
Like i said before about the Royal Scot's thing i beleive that his powers were obtained during his time in service (maybe Widmore could have something to do with this). Perhaps an experiment or even an accident while in the army.
The book Desmond has (sorry can't remember the title) he wants it to be the last thing he ever reads. The soldier/guard brings up a good point where he says "that's great if you know when you're going to die" Maybe Desmond has had or is anticipating a vision about his death, so he knows when to read the book.
References in the Stadium:
By far the biggest evidence for Desmond's future-seeing before the hatch implosion is in the stadium with Jack.
We all know the line "See you in another life brotha" and we beleive it to be a clue by the writers, but what if Desmond knew he and Jack would see each other again, just not when or where.
The strangest reference to Desmond's ability however comes when him and Jack start talking about Sarah. Desmond guesses that it is a girl patient (could male intuition or a vision) then Jack says that he made a promise he couldn't keep... he can't fix her, then Desmond replies "but what if ya did?" Jack says that's impossible with her condition
Desmond then gives Jack some strange advice "Lift it up"
Jack is puzzled and asks "lift it up?" Desmond gestures to the foot.
Seems like some basic advice but look at the context it is in, here is the transcript from that scene
JACK: I told her -- I made her a promise I couldn't keep -- I told her I'd fix her and I couldn't. I failed.
DESMOND: Right. Just one thing -- what if you did fix her?
JACK: I didn't.
DESMOND: But what if you did?
JACK: You don't know what you're talking about, man.
DESMOND: I don't? Why not?
JACK: Because with her situation that would be a miracle, brother.
DESMOND: Oh, and you don't believe in miracles? [Jack chuckles and shakes his head] Right. Well then, I'm going to give you some advice anyway. You have to lift it up. (He may be saying "lift her up".)
JACK: Lift it up?
DESMOND: Your ankle. You have to keep it elevated. It's been nice chatting.
Jack would know something so simple considering he's a surgeon. I think Desmond had a vision about it. Jack thinks Desmond has no idea what he is talking about Desmond says :why not? like he does know.
Back to the lift it up advice, later in the episode Sarah says she can still feel her toes (a miracle that Desmond hinted at) Jack then proceeds to "LIFT UP" the blanket and check to see her feeling in her legs.
Did Desmond know?
Was he able to see the future before the hatch implosion?
I think this provides some proof for it
Any thoughts?

i like this theory it is very interesting, but i think in the preview lost moment where Desmond tackles Charlie he says "you don't know what happened to me when i turned the key"
i could be wrong though JMO

SPOILER ALERT -- level 4...no, 8...no, 15...no,16...no, 23
No doubt Des sure "knows" more than he lets on, but Des has doubts as to exactly what he "knows."
So what is it that Jack must "lift it up", as Des says?
Well, talk about your story changer, we now know "Jughead" is on the island. You don't think the writers will be content for the Others to bury it and just forget about it, do you?
The H-Bomb is a threat to destroy the island and everyone on it. But wait, there's more. The island has a "very dangerous energy source" and IF the H-bomb were to release that energy source, perhaps the rest of the world is not safe.
But the H-bomb is now "safely" buried somewhere on the island, so why would Jack "lift it up?" Perhaps there is another bomb that will be revealed later that could detonate the H-bomb, which could then release the "dangerous energy source". Talk about your Deep Impact.
Well, there is a helium balloon that Henry Gale arrived on the island. But that H-bomb is way too big to "elevate." It would have to be a nuclear device to detonate the Jughead, something like a suitcase nuke, a "Shape of Things to Come." Perhaps a suitcase nuke was being smuggled on flight 815 and perhaps it is still ticking. Talk about your Swan song.
If Faraday can't defuse the suitcase nuke, then perhaps Jack can find HG's helium balloon and "lift it up" ....just as soon as they find some helium to inflate it. But where would they find that? Hmmmm.....
